Product Review: Night Fision Optics Ready Stealth Series for Walther & Gunsmithing Tool Kit (August 2022)

After my recent review of the Walther PDP Pro SD FS, I realized that I hadn’t evaluated my new Night Fision iron sights.  The PDP’s factory plastic sights are a glaringly obvious weak point of the PDP.  This is arguably the first upgrade to make this gun ready for duty use.  Fortunately the PDP accepts Glock sights so there are plenty of options on the market.  I searched for luminous night sights with a blacked out rear.  I planned on installing a red dot, and did not want too “busy” of a sight picture.  Night Fision caught my eye (pun intended) due to its long experience and expertise with tritium insertion.  Also it is an American company with products made in the USA using Swiss tritium.  Their products are advertised as the brightest tritium night sights on the market.

For Walther, Night Fision sells the Optics Ready Stealth Series sights which are made in 3 different heights depending on the desired sight picture and red dot co-witness.  The front blade is available with orange, yellow, or black rings, with the rear blade having either black rear rings or blank (no tritium).  I had Steiner MPS red dot and Forward Controls Design optic plate, so selected the lowest “290-313 Blade Height” size.  This gave me a slightly lower than 1/3 cowitness with the red dot.  I also selected a yellow front ring and blank rear sights.  The price for this configuration is currently $101.  For black rear sights (2 tritium dots on the rear sight), the price increases to $119.

These sights are made from high quality steel with a black nitride finish.  The Night Fision logo is also laser engraved into both the front and rear sights.  The quality compared to the factory Walther sights are night and day, and durability is apparent from the fit and finish.  Installation of the front sights was relatively straightforward.  However, some filing of the rear sights was necessary to get it to fit into the dovetail notch of the PDP.  Brownells has an excellent video featuring these sights and installation here.

Since I could not find a decent sight pusher for a good price, I also purchased the Gunsmithing Tool Kit from Night Fision to install the sights.  This kit includes a gunsmith hammer, aluminum drift punch, oil stone, Glock front sight tool, and hex screws for Night Fision sights.  This kit was perfect for installation of the sights since the oil stone was more than adquate for filing the rear sight for fitting.  Also the hammer and drift punch are specifically constructed out of nylon and aluminum to avoid marring of steel parts when installing the sights.  For $24.99, this is a great set of tools for sight installation and other gunsmithing applications.

Overall, the Night Fision Optics Ready Stealth Series for Walther and their Gunsmith Tool Kit are quality products at an appropriate price point and I would highly recommend them if you are in the market for these products.
