In the age of the modern striker fired polymer pistol, one would expect manufacturers to make improvements in grip ergonomics. Arguably there are some exceptions, such as the Walther PDP or HK VP9, but any aftermarket grip adjustments are often limited to changing the backstraps, using Hogue or Talon grips, or permanently modifying the grip using silicon carbide or stippling. Don’t get me wrong, these solutions work well for what they’re designed for, but they’re just damn ugly. It’s a shame that there isn’t some kind of workaround to allow screw in grips on polymer frames.
That being said, one of the key factors in my decision to purchase a CZ P-01 (a gun that is over 20 years old) was the ability to swap the grips. From both an aesthetic and a functional standpoint, aftermarket grips such as ones made by Lok Grips allow you to upgrade your firearm’s grips. Now you can shoot in style!
I opted for Lok Grips GridLOK Aluminum grips in black. I’ve had my eye on these for a while and immediately ordered them once they came back in stock. They also make a brass version for a slightly higher price if you’d like to add some weight.
The unique geometrical pattern of the grip has a futuristic look that is a complementary contrast to the classic design of the P-01. The texture of the grip is aggressive, similar to skateboard tape. These grips have the same palm swell size as the factory rubber grips, however they taper toward the frame at the upper part of the grip. I thought that the taper would improve my support hand purchase, but I think the difference is minimal compared to the stock grips.
For actual shooting, I also found the grip performance compared to the factory rubber grips to be just a minor improvement. I definitely prefer the look and feel of the GridLOK grips to the factory grips, but it’s not a substantial upgrade in terms of function. The factory grips provide a good amount of grip already, and also provide a litte more comfort due to their compressibility. But the aluminum GridLok grips allow you to feel the gun more directly, which can of course be a pro or a con. It’s also worth noting that these grips are not designed to be the “grippiest” Lok Grips offering for the CZ75 Compact. They have much more aggressive grip textures and even less aggressive ones if that is what you are looking for.
Overall, the CZ 75 Compact Palm Swell GridLok Aluminum grips from Lok Grips are a great purchase if you’re looking to upgrade the look and feel of your CZ 75 Compact. They also come in blue, red, orange and purple. Lok Grips are also well known for their outstanding customer service, and you can always return them (in new condition) within 60 days if you change your mind.
