My first year of shooting, I primarily shot brass and aluminum cased CCI Blazer 9mm ammo. Never had a problem until I found a short round as pictured above. I contacted CCI customer service. They kindly explained to me that due to their manufacturing process, the existence of only one short round most likely occurred from mishandling of the ammo. For example, a drop of the box or something dropping on the box. CCI ammo is made and packed on a plate system, so if one round had an inappropiate setback, then the other bullets made on the plate would have a similar setback. I no longer had the original packaging to inspect for damage, but CCI’s explanation made sense to me. I still think highly of CCI Blazer ammo and would use it again.
But since then I’ve taken this experience as a lesson to always check your ammo. It’s definitely more time consuming, but a visual inspection of your ammo at a minimum should be performed prior to use. Take nothing for granted.
